Your new role
The portering service operates 24 hours/7 days per week, and you will be required to work on a shift rota, which includes dayshift/backshift/weekends/nightshift, as working hours will be determined by the service delivery of the department needs.
Porter duties vary from patient movement throughout the hospital, collection and delivery of specimens, delivery of stores, meal trolley, linen lockers, parcels and pharmacy to wards and departments. Waste uplift and exchanging of bins, including clinical hospital waste. Porters can walk a high number of miles on a daily basis. Manual handling element and assisting with maintaining a safe clean working environment for the delivery of the services at all times. Understanding and follow health & safety procedures.

You have a contracted number of hours per week, which are exclusive of a meal break. The working pattern will be agreed with your Line Manager prior to your commencement. This working pattern can be flexed to meet your own and service provision requirements with reasonable notice.

Allowances are set out in the following table:
Length of service Annual leave + Public Holidays On appointment to NHS 27 days + 8 days = 5.4 weeks
After 5 years NHS service 29 days + 8 days = 5.8 weeks
After 10 years NHS service 33 days + 8 days = 6.6 weeks Anyone who works on a weekend will receive a higher rate.

Pension The NHS offer an employer pension contribution of 20.8% so your combined contribution would be over 25% which is significantly higher than any other comparable position.
