Your New Role

To succeed within this role you will need to be ready to hit the ground running. The successful candidate will take responsibility for their designs from start to finish. Ideally the candidate will have experience on projects of value ranging from £50,000 to £5,000,000. The role involves working with the main structural materials (concrete, steel, masonry and timber). So being comfortable working with these materials is an important factor. While the candidate also needs to be numerically literate and have a good eye for detail while taking professional pride in their work. Other Key skills are Time management and Organisational skills due to the busy nature and fast pace of the role.

What you will need to succeed

To succeed within this role you will need to be able to Produce structural scheme design for a variety of projects, plus carry out design and analysis of structural elements and frames in main structural materials to the current Eurocodes or British Standards. Be able to Produce or oversee clearly presented calculation reports for submission to Building Control for approval. Be a confident CAD User while also be able to produce hand drawn schemes with typical details and sections. Candidates will need to hold a degree within either Civil or Structural engineering, or additionally a Chartered Engineer with MIstructE or MICE or working towards Chartered status. Further technical knowledge required is extensive knowledge of the Eurocodes and knowledge of the equivalent BS codes for all main structural materials. Candidates must understand CDM regulations while also being competent in working with technical software such as TEDDs/Robot, AutoCAD/Revit and Bluebeam as well as Microsoft Office suite. While it is also important to note to be successful within this role you need more than Technical Skills you will also need Competent Design Project Management. to be able to work on multiple projects at the same time, under minimal supervision. Be able to assist in the preparation of fee proposals and design programmes. The role also requires the candidate to Prepare monthly invoices. Although the role is mainly a technical role candidates will need to be able to build relationships and liaise with architects, clients, contractors and design teams regularly and effectively. As the design project management side of the role is key with dealing with project and client expectations.
