HR Business Partner

A charitable organisation based in Belfast is looking to recruit for an HR Business Partner for a 12 month fixed term contract.

Your new role
As HR Business Partner, your main duties and responsibilities will be as follows:
HR Best Practice
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management on all complex HR issues and coach, support, train and challenge managers in the application of HR policies and practices, taking into account current legislation and relevant codes of practice.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the People, Development and Compliance strategy in support of the organisations business strategy.
  • Report against key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the HR function and its initiatives, implementing suitable corrective actions as and when required.
  • Develop and implement employee engagement activities to support overall business direction in collaboration with key stakeholders to address relevant business concerns.
  • Design and deliver development workshops in areas of HR best practice to enhance knowledge and skills of the management team and to ensure they are suitably informed of legislative changes in a timely manner.
  • Work in partnership with other support service areas, particularly within the wider People, Development & Compliance Directorate, across the full range of work on projects, policy and procedures development to ensure development of efficient and effective solutions.
  • Complete an in-depth review of the HR Policies and Procedures to ensure they are in line with HR best practice and maintain thereafter.
HR Management Information
  • Manage and maintain HR information systems and develop standard documentation for all employees in relation to using the self-service HR Information System, securing user adoption and generating cost savings.
  • Analyse the trends in KPI data ensuring that appropriate and proportionate corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Support with the management of budgets relevant to HR work streams and alignment, to ensure that value for money is achieved in its expenditure.
  • Actively develop the HR Information System to support business requirements and increase the HR efficiency and reporting capability.
Strategic Planning
  • Contribute to the development of the People, Development and Compliance operational plan ensuring it is in line with the organisation’s strategic aims.
  • Lead on departmental strategic projects in line with the operational plan.
  • Use a proactive and forward-thinking approach to develop initiatives to support the aims and objectives of the operational plan.
  • Identify changing sector requirements and implement actions as appropriate.
Employee Relations
  • Assist with employee relations issues such as grievance, discipline and other performance related matters and provide advice and guidance on complex HR issues in order to minimise risk and financial exposure whilst ensuring a fair and consistent organisational approach.
  • Prepare, compile and manage documentation for Employment Relations cases up to and including tribunal cases.
  • Promote good people management by ensuring employees are managed consistently and fairly.
  • Participate on the management of employee relation cases relating to sickness absence. This includes making recommendations, giving advice and support to managers, liaising with occupational health, completing case review meetings, and implementing appropriate actions as required.
Line Management
  • Provide direct line management to the HR Executives.
  • Coach, mentor and delegate responsibility and authority to staff as appropriate while retaining overall responsibility and accountability.
  • Lead, support, and work with other members of the team on day-to-day priorities to ensure efficient delivery of HR services.

What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:
  • Third level qualification (or equivalent) in Human Resources or business related discipline, or a recognised professional Human Resources qualification at a minimum of level 5 AND 3 years’ generalist HR experience OR 5 years’ generalist HR experience.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing advice and guidance on HR policies and processes.
  • Demonstrable experience in the management of complex disciplinary and grievance cases which is compliant with current NI/ROI Employment Legislation and Codes of Practices.
  • Proven experience of developing strong consultative relationships with key stakeholders on HR strategies.
  • A full current driving licence and access to a car.
