Home Manager

Hays social care are supporting a client in filling a home manager role in the Exeter area.

Our client are in the private sector provider of specialist child support services. The organisation supports vulnerable young people presenting with complex social care needs. The young people we support require bespoke packages within multi occupancy homes or solo occupancy accommodation working with staff who facilitate the development of sense of self and key skills. The aim of all the services is to support young people into independence. The organisation aims to achieve the highest standards of support for young people. The organisation works with managers to ensure appropriate resources, personnel and support systems are in place to deliver the required standards of support

Overview of role
A Home/ service Manager is expected to complete all duties set out within statute and using as a guide the “Children’s Homes Regulations, including Quality Standards (2015)”. The home/ service is unregulated however our expectations are that the home/ service will adhere to the high standards expected by Ofsted whilst staying within the remit of supported accommodation as set out in our policies. The Home/ service Manager will have access to copies of all company policy and guidance documents and the ability to input into the development of new policies and updates. The Home/ service Manager will report to their identified Line Manager and work collaboratively with all of the management team. They will be expected to support the standards of service set out in policy documentation across all sites regardless of their designated workplace. The Home/ service Manager will be expected to be a role model for all colleagues and young people, ensuring that they are personable, punctual, non-confrontational, reliable, honest, diligent and adherent to all company standards for dress, personal presentation, conduct and attitude. The Home/ service Manager may be required to work across different sites within the Organisation at times.

Person Specification - Essential

  • Experience needed in a managerial role in a care setting.
  • Experience of managing fast paced settings with challenging behaviour.
  • Experience of carrying out administrative duties such as filing, recording, rota preparation and report writing for Children’s Homes.
  • Experience of carrying out supervision, capability, appraisal and induction.
  • Experience of managing safeguarding cases.
  • Professional qualification to Level 3 Health and Social Care (children’s pathway).
  • A willingness and desire to pursue further training.
  • Up-to-date safeguarding and/or recruitment training/ management training.
  • Knowledge of children’s needs and rights, and how they can be best be met.
  • An awareness of policy and regulations relating to child care.
  • Knowledge of child development and what behaviour is age appropriate to individual children, and the flexibility to respond to these needs.
  • A knowledge of current child care law, specially related to children in care.
  • An awareness of the principles of good child care planning.
  • Fully conversant with 1989 Children Act.
  • Experience of working with young people aged 16 plus.
  • An ability to demonstrate good child care practice in your own direct work.
  • Thorough knowledge of Care Standards Act 2000.
  • Thorough knowledge of safeguarding procedure’s and practice within the child care industry.
  • Understanding of and commitment to professional supervision.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • An ability to discriminate effectively between those decisions which can be deferred and those which need immediate attention.
  • An ability to make decisions.
  • Knowledge of recruiting, inducting and developing individuals and teams.
