Senior Technical Buyer

As Senior Technical Buyer you will be working alongside the Estimating and Design departments. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the effective running of the companies largest project to date in Europe; taking the lead in directing profitability by purchasing the most cost-effective and appropriate materials required.

Reporting into the Contracts Installation Director, this role is best suited to an individual with previous experience and knowledge of the construction sector, purchasing a high-volume of materials within specified timeframes.


  • Providing prices for all materials required for the relevant AC Plc projects plans and drawings.
  • Applying experience and knowledge of the industry to source potential suppliers and new products.
  • Contacting suppliers and sub-contractors to obtain quotations.
  • Negotiating delivery times to meet client expectations and ensure efficiency onsite.
  • Liaising with the Estimating Department within the tendering stage to ensure an accurate project cost.
  • Respond effectively to supplier challenges and external influences which may affect the flow and delivery of materials to site.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities to ensure the buying process is streamlined and responsive to meet the project requirements.
  • Provide advice to the relevant Project Estimator on predicated costs for materials.
  • Train and coach junior members of the department as required, acting as a source of knowledge and onboarding mentor for new starters within the team.
  • Ensure compliance with HSEQ requirements of materials and services.
  • Regularly communicate with the relevant Project Director/Project Lead to ensure deadlines and expectations are met.
  • Maintain knowledge of export/import control legislation.
  • Monitor market trends and supply chain strategies.
  • Co-ordinate materials across sites to avoid double stocking and adverse purchasing variations.
  • Complete the administration of quarantined and rejected material.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the buying process and the ordering of construction materials and previous experience within a buying role.
  • Proven history of supplier contract management.
  • Experience using internal costing management systems.
  • Graduate level or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline OR relevant experience and qualifications
  • CIPS Qualifications (or studying towards)
