Recruiter: Royal Automobile Club
Head of Capital Projects, Royal Automobile Club, Woodcote Park, Epsom and Pall Mall, London
Permanent, part-time and interim considered.
Candidates/applicants should be within an easy commute of both Surrey and London.
Head of Capital Projects is a pivotal and multi-faceted role in the Royal Automobile Club’s Senior Management Team and requires an ambitious individual who will use their wealth of expertise and strategic vision to spearhead the Club’s programme of capital projects and infrastructure improvements.
Some of these projects are at concept stage and some require delivery – all of which will be part of your remit as you implement a 10-year capital development plan, while also managing the Club’s property portfolio.
About the Club and clubhouses
One of the world’s leading private members’ clubs, the Royal Automobile Club has a strong automotive heritage, a thriving membership, high-quality accommodation and restaurants, and an ambitious future development plan.
Our estate includes the Pall Mall ‘Town Clubhouse’, equipped with exceptional dining, accommodation and sports facilities, and the Woodcote Park ‘Country Clubhouse’, set in a 350-acre Downland estate in Surrey and equipped with two 18-hole golf courses.
The Club’s capital refurbishment programme will maintain our assets, while our development programme will see the construction of substantial new facilities to enhance the estate for the benefits of members. This will need to be woven together with a wealth of other improvements, meaning the next two years will be an intensive period of planning and construction, with minimum impact on members.
About this key role
Reporting to the Club Secretary, and working in close partnership with the COO and CFO, you will focus on devising and overseeing the successful delivery of the Club’s capital development programme to time, budget and member satisfaction. You will also oversee the programme of capital projects, prepare the annual costed capital expenditure programme of works and be expected to:
- Chair the Capital Projects Steering Group, attend the House Committees and provide the secretariat support to the Woodcote Park Development Plan Sub Committee.
- Conduct effective stakeholder engagement to ensure member support for capital projects, especially at Main Board level.
- Manage and support the work of the two project managers and PA.
- Develop an engaged and high-performing team within the Capital Projects department.
- Prepare written Business Cases, submissions and give verbal reports to the Board.
What we are looking for
Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a construction or property discipline, you will have a proven track record of successful delivery of complex, high value and inter-dependent programmes of capital projects.
You must also have strong technical knowledge of building construction/services, health and safety practices and legislation and financial management, while experience of leading planning submissions, tendering, and financial ownership are also vital.
An outstanding communicator, both verbal and written, you will possess strong strategic, financial and analytical management skills, plus have excellent relationship-building abilities.
When you join the Club, we will provide you with generous benefits, including a more than competitive pension scheme, employer-paid health cash plan, free meals on duty and a genuine investment in your personal development.
To apply, please submit a CV and a covering statement (up to one A4 page) explaining why you would like the role and why you would be suitable.
